The people of Andhra
are originally of Aryan stock who migrated to the south of the Vindyas
where they mixed with the Non-Aryans. Andhra Pradesh first enters the
history books as a part of great Mauryan Empire.
The word Andhra is equally applicable to the land, the people and the
language although the language in course of time developed a name of its
own, Telugu.
Administration: The legislature in A.P is unicameral, the legislative
assembly has 295 seats. The A.P Legislative Council was abolished in
1985.

With a 970-km coastline, A.P has the largest coastline in India. The
port of Vishakapatinam caters to Madhya Pradesh and Orissa too.
Telugu films have topped the list of films produced in India since 1994.
The state has made advances in harnessing the information technology for
better administration. e.g., computer links between collectorates and
heads of departments.
A.P has a widely diversified farmland with a rich variety of cash crops.
It has surpluses in food grains, produces 10 m. tons of rice and can
rightly claim to be the granary of south. Agricultural sector accounts
for 50% of the state income and provides livelihood for 70% of the
population. The state ranks fourth in industrial investments.
