How to reach Hyderabad

Air: The nearest airport is at Hyderabad (157 km).
Rail: Warangal has a rail head. It is well connected to important cities of India.
Bus: State bus service from Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Karimnagar, Khammam and some other districts.

Warangal

About 150 kms. from Hyderabad lies the ancient city of Warangal. Noted today for its beautiful lakes, magnificent temples and wildlife, Warangal was once the capital of the legendary Kakatiya kingdom. It in fact, found mention in the travel diaries of Marco Polo. The marvellous thousand pillared temple built by King Rudra Deva in the 12th century, is found here.

Thousand Pillar Temple

The famous Thousand Pillar Temple, built in 1163 AD, by king Rudra Deva is an important monument situated near the Hanamkonda-Warangal highway. One thousand richly carved pillars and a magnificent black basalt Nandi bull are unique to this temple which is dedicated to Lords Shiva, Vishnu and Surya.

Ramappa Temple

This breathtakingly beautiful temple has been rightfully described as the "brightest star in the galaxy of mediaeval temples in the Deccan". Rich, intricate carvings adorn the walls, pillars and ceilings of this marvellous edifice. It is located about 64 km from Warangal, at Palampet.

Warangal Fort

This fort was built during the 13th century by the Kakatiya king Ganapati Deva and his daughter Rudramma. Some of the remains that stand tall here to this day include four huge stone gateways and several exquisite pieces of sculpture.

Chittoor

Chittoor is an important railway station on the Renigunta - Katpadi line. Places around this town include Chandragiri, Horsley hill, Kailasakona waterfalls, Thalakona, Madanapalle, Nagari and Puttur.

Chandragiri

The last capital of the Vijayanagar kings, Chandragiri is located on the banks of the river Swarnamukhi. The ruins of the empire's fort and palaces are set amidst the greenery of this place.

Horsley hills

Named after a former collector of Chittoor, it is a charming little hill station at an altitude of 1,265 metres above sea level.

Kailasakona waterfalls

This beautiful waterfall is situated in the Nagari valley. It is considered sacred and the mineral rich water of Kailasakona is said to possess curative powers.

Madanapalle

A famous health resort, located at an altitude of 710 meters above sea level, Madanapalle has a wonderful climate throughout the year.

Nagari

The most prominent and highest cliff in the Nagari hills, is called the Nagari nose as it resembles
a human nose in shape. This is a beautiful place for a picnic spot.

Puttur

This village is famous for its bone setters, whose ability to set right any type of fracture with the help of herbs and indigenous plaster, is renowned throughout the south.

Thalakona

Etymologically, this place is said to be the threshold to the seven hills of Tirumala. The 6 metre fall perennial water fall and a fertile valley filled with luxuriant evergreen forests, present a grand view of nature at its best.

Tirupathi

This all day tour to the famous Venkateshwara Temple at Tirumala in southern Andhra Pradesh is good value if you don't have the time or inclination to do it yourself. Be warned, however, that at least 12 hours are spent on the bus. There is also a special darshan for the visitor to the Temple. This usually takes two hours, but on weekends and holidays it can take upto five hours. This is one of the most revered Temples in India.
