Johannesburg, May 12: South Africa's Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula has claimed recommendations from an inquiry into mismanagement at Cricket South Africa (CSA) are set to change the nation's sporting landscape.
Mbalula believes the Nicholson inquiry, which found suspended CSA chief executive Gerald Majola of failing to disclose bonuses from the Indian Premier League (IPL), was not only about cricket.
"The committee of inquiry chaired by judge Chris Nicholson found that the provisions of the Companies Act were breached and made far-reaching recommendations," Sports24 quoted Mbalula, as saying.
"These recommendations have a potential to change the entire sporting landscape in South African sport, and not just for cricket," he added.
The Nicholson inquiry announced in March that Majola had secretly" received 1.8 million rands in unauthorized bonuses from the Indian Premier League.
Nicholson found that a prima facie case existed that Majola flouted sections of the Companies Act.
Mbalula said the department had agreed with CSA on the implementation process of the recommendations.
"We are committed to good and clean governance of sport in genera. This is not about cricket alone. It is about all of sport," Mbalula said.
