Pak-origin UK politician under scrutiny for not declaring rental income
Posted online: Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 10:48:54 PM

London, May 27 : Pak-origin British politician Baroness Warsi is facing charges from Labour over her accommodation expenses and rental income.

The co-chair of the Conservative Party reportedly claimed taxpayer-related expenses while she was staying in London at a friend's house.

She earlier admitted to not fully declaring her rental income from a flat she owns in West London, between January 2011 and May 2012.

According to The BBC, Baroness Warsi said she took full responsibility for that "oversight".aroness Warsi said she made an appropriate payment for the nights she stayed, during 2008, at a property occupied by Tory official Naweed Khan.

He was renting part of the house at the time and had invited her to stay.

However, it is not clear if the money went to the owner of the house. At the time, Warsi was claiming 165.50 pounds a night as subsistence allowance.

Labour MP John Mann said he would be asking the Lords Commissioner for Standards to investigate.

Baroness Warsi said: "When the discrepancy became apparent this week, I immediately informed the registrar of Lords' interests of its omission".

Conservative Party sources have described the incident as a 'cock up' which has been remedied, and that Lords authorities will not take further action.
