Tailor made insurance for Indians in UAE
Posted online: Friday, May 18, 2007 at 5:19:49 PM

Two specially designed insurance schemes for Indians working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been launched taking into consideration some of the problems faced by them.

The Overseas Indian Insurance Policy (Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana Policy) and Amaat Al Nas Personal Accident Insurance Policy were launched at a press conference Wednesday by the Consul General of India to the UAE Venu Rajamony along with I.S. Phukela, general manager of The New India Assurance.

The Overseas Indian Insurance Policy is open to all Indians on a valid UAE Employment Visa, in the age group of 18 to 60 years. The policy covers natural death and death due to accident on an insured sum of 35,000 dirham ($9,500), up to 7,500 dirham (nearly $20,500) for repatriation of mortal remains along with one economy class return airfare for the accompanying attendant.

The company will reimburse the actual expenses in case the Indian Mission arranges for repatriation.

It also guarantees up to 3,500 dirham ($9,500) for hospitalisation costs due to any accident or any disease arising out of such accident.

The Amaat Al Nas is available to all legal residents of UAE, including UAE nationals. The policy covers death due to accident, permanent total disability, loss of limbs, repatriation of mortal remains to the country of origin.

The New India Assurance Co. Ltd. has had a presence in UAE since 1961 in partnership with one of the most business groups of the UAE, the Rais Hasan Saadi Group.
