KOLLYWOOD - TOP TEN MOVIES
Position Movie Cast
Last Updated On:  20 June 2011
1 Avan Ivan Cast: Arya, Vishal, Madhu Shalini, Janani Iyer
Direction: Bala
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Production: Kalpathi S Agoram, Kalpathi S Ganesh, Kalpathi S S

Bala’s comedy with Arya and Vishal in the lead is not without its shortcomings but Vishal’s versatility seems to have made people like the movie. Vishal’s role is well written and brilliantly executed by the actor.

Thanks to its much-awaited status, Avan Ivan did well in initial collections and had a grand opening all over the release centers.
2 Ko Cast: Jiiva, Ajmal Ameer, Karthika Nair, Piaa Bajpai, Prakash Raj
Direction: K. V. Anand
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Production: Kumar,jayaraman

Ko is the story of an unintentional politician-maker played by Jiiva. He gets sucked into the political aspirations of his friend and ends up employing his colleagues to achieve it. Jiiva, Karthika, Pia and Ajmal play lead roles.
3 Engeyum Kadhal Cast: Jeyam Ravi, Hansika Motwani
Direction: Prabhu Deva
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Production: Sun Pictures

Although the movie has everything going for it; the cute lead pair, good locales, music, Engeyum Kadhal proves to be a letdown for the lack of a good script.

The movie did not fall too short of collections, having made average returns for the producers over the past 6 weeks’ run.
4 Vaanam Cast: Str, Anushka, Bharath, Vega, Santhanam
Direction: Krish
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Production: Cloud Nine Movies (Dhayanidhi Azhagiri)

Vaanam brings together tiny tales, involving different people and culminates into a very interesting climax. Simbhu, Anushka, Santhanam, Prakashraj and Saranya play significant roles.

After having finished 7 weeks of its existence in the Box Office, Vaanam is slowly emerging as an above average movie.
5 Aaranya Kaandam Cast: Jackie Shroff, Ravi Krishna, Sampath Raj, Yasmin Ponnappa, Somasundaram
Direction: Thiagarajan Kumararaja
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Production: SPB Charan

Debut director Thiagarajan Kumararaja has marked the beginning of neo-noir films in Tamil cinema with his supremely directed Aaranya Kaandam. With no songs, the movie finds itself pacing fast in every turn with interesting scenes and events.

Although the movie is not doing great collections, with patronage from urban audience weekends are making good collections.
6 Ethan Cast: Vimal, Sanusha, Jayaprakash
Direction: L.Suresh
Music: Taj Noor
Production: Nazir

Watching Ethan, you almost think Vimal is on his way to getting stereotyped by similar movies. Although he manages to shatter that myth, the movie has nothing much to talk about leaving us asking for more from the actor and the director. Average at best, reported from the release centers.
7 Aanmai Thaverel Cast: Dhruvah, Shruti, Sampath, Dharan
Direction: Kuzhanthai Velappan
Music: Mariya Manohar
Production: Kamal Nayan

Aanmai Thaverel traces the human trafficking nexus that is prevalent in many metropolitan cities in India. Directed by Kuzhanthai Velappan, the movie has Dhruvah, Shruti, Sampath and Dharan playing lead roles.

Releasing over the weekend to below average houses, the movie will have to show its might in the coming days to have a say at the box office.
8 Azhagarsaamyin Kudhirai Cast: Appukutty, Saranya Mohan
Direction: Suseenthiran
Music: Ilaiyaraja
Production: P. Madhan
Is it possible to make hit movies without dependable star cast? Well, it apparently is. Azhagarsaamyin Kudhirai proves that.

Azhagarsaamyin Kudhirai is well on its way to be declared a hit, making brisk business over the weekdays as well.

9 Kanden Cast: Shanthnoo Bhagyaraj, Rashmi Gautam, Santhanam
Direction: A. C. Mugil
Music: Vijay Ebenezer
Production: TCS

Some good old romance, but the director slipped up a little bit in developing an interesting script. So the movie ends up boring in the first half with things picking up for a predictable climax in the second.

Average returns reported from the release centers with multiplexes registering near half attendance.
