PM asks Ujjwala beneficiaries to work for village cleanliness

New Delhi, Feb 13 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday asked beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana to work towards ensuring cleanliness in their respective villages too to help improve the health of co-residents.

Modi, who interacted with over 100 beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana at his residence here, also laid emphasis on ending all forms of discrimination against the girl child.



Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, initiated by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural, aims to safeguard the health of women and children by providing clean cooking fuel.

The beneficiaries, who belong to different states, earlier attended the 'LPG Panchayat' hosted by President Ram Nath Kovind.



An official release said the beneficiaries told the Prime Minister about the positive change in their lives through the use of LPG for cooking.



"The Prime Minister encouraged them to talk on various aspects of their day-to-day lives," the release said.



In response to the observation of beneficiaries, Modi mentioned Saubhagya Yojana, which has been launched by the Union government to provide electricity connections to every home.



"He exhorted the gathering to work towards ensuring cleanliness in their villages. He said this will improve the health of the entire village, much the same way as the Ujjwala Yojana had improved the health of their family members," the release said.



Lauding the Ujjwala Yojana, some of the beneficiaries also discussed specific development challenges in their respective areas.

Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was present on the occasion.
