PM Modi assures round the clock assistance to flood-hit Varanasi

New Delhi, Aug 23 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reached out to the people in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi and said all assistance is being provided to tackle the flood situation.

"Deeply concerned by the flood situation in Varanasi. PMO is closely monitoring the situation (and) is in touch with with local authorities," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

"NDRF teams are present at Varanasi for rescue (and) relief work. The MP office there is working round the clock to provide all assistance," he added. Incessant rains have forced over 100,000 people to vacate their homes in northern Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring Bihar.

According to reports, around 30 people have been killed in the two states from the floods. A total of 130,000 people are sheltering in relief camps across the two states and additional emergency workers have been deployed to help with rescue and relief efforts.
