Elementary School, Ayanavaram, Chennai
On
the 09-02-2001, three members of the South India
Philatelist’s Association (SIPA) had visited the Kannada
Elementary School at Ayanavaram, Chennai to give a
demonstration on the intricacies of stamp collecting. The
workshop was attended by select students of seven local
schools and the staff of the local post office. The senior
postal department staff who attended the workshop were Mr.
Nelson - Chief Post Master, Mr. Edwin Alexander - Chennai
City North Division Officer and Mr. Subramaniam -
Assistant Director of Postal Services. The speakers from
SIPA were Mr. Madan Mohan Das, Mr. Balakrishna Das -
President and Mr. Nelson. The event was also attended by
the principal of the Kannada Elementary School.
The speakers were very well accepted by the students and
the postal staff. The speakers spoke on all the aspects on
how to be a good collector and on what to do and what not
to do as a collector. The students were also given a
demonstration and a slide show.
