When did India issue their first definitive issues?

The first Definitive Issue of Independent India was released on 15th August 1949 on the occasion of the Second Anniversary of Independence and features the gems of Indian architecture and sculptures. The values issued are 3ps, 6ps, 9ps, 1a, 2as, 3as, 3 1/2as, 4as, 6as, 8as, 12as, 1Re, 2Rs, 5Rs, 10Rs,15Rs.


What was the reason for issuing a stamp for Rabindranath Tagore in 1961?

1961 marks the 80th birth centenary of the great poet who gave to India not only the "Gitanjali" which won him the noble prize in 1913 but he gave us the National  Anthem "Jana Gana Mana". The stamp on Tagore was issued on the 7th of May 1961.
