Abdur Rab-led JSD proposes three-point proposal on EC to B’desh President

Dhaka [Bangladesh], Jan. 8 : A three-point proposal for reconstitution of the Election Commission has been proposed by the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) to Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid.

A 10-member delegation of the party led by JSD President A.S.M. Abdur Rab met President Hamid yesterday at Bangabhaban to convey their proposals. The proposal includes the enactment of a law to bring a permanent solution regarding the reconstitution of the commission.

The Dhaka Tribune quoted president's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin, as saying after the meeting that President Abdul Hamid thanked the JSD delegation for their constructive proposals over the reconstitution of the commission.

Expressing his satisfaction over the outcome of the meeting, JSD President A.S.M. Abdur Rab said, "Dialogue is important for democracy as well as for holding fair polls." Rab said that they had a cordial discussion on the issue of the Election Commission's reconstitution and they are pleased to meet the president.

The president's press secretary had said earlier in December last year that as per article 118 of the Constitution, the president will hold a dialogue with registered political parties before appointing the Chief Election Commissioner and commissioners.
