Guwahati (Assam) [India], Nov. 26 : To motivate youngsters and empower disabled children, the First Para Taekwondo state level and the 11th district level Open Martial Art Championship was held in Assam's Jorhat district under the aegis of Taekwando Association of Assam in association with Jorhat Taekwando Association recently.
About 40 disabled children from different districts of the state participated in the championship. Besides, the Jorhat branch of Childline, a civil society organisation working for children welfare, was also inaugurated during the championship.
"This is for the first time that an organisation like 'Prerona' has organized such martial arts championship to boost the talent of the intellectually disabled children.
And with my 32 years of experience in martial arts, I am judging the championship. We are very happy because in the entire country the intellectually disabled children are benefitted from such kind of championships and Jorhat hosted a similar championship," Hiten Borah, President of Prerona, told ANI.
"I appreciate the initiative by Prerona, especially the teachers and the guardians who are training the children to be physically fit and make them socially responsible," he added.
Sayera Rehman, Proprietor of Prerona told ANI, "It is a project under the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare.
It is under the Child Line Foundation, we the Prerona, is a collaborative agency for a child line project for Jorhat district.
We are starting this project to help each and every child who is abandoned. We have a team coordinator and a rescue team and with the help of the team we will go forward.".
