Australian Open: Paes-Hingis stroll into mixed doubles second round

Melbourne [Australia], Jan.22 : Indian tennis ace Leander Paes and his Swiss partner Martina Hingis produced a sublime performance as they marched into the second round of the mixed doubles event at the season-opening Australian Open here on Sunday.

The unseeded Indo-Swiss pair swept aside the Australian duo of Destanee Aiava and Marc Polmans 6-4, 6-3 in the opening-round contest that lasted for 51 minutes.

Paes and Hingis will now lock horns with the Australian team of Casey Dellacqua and Matt Reid, who survived a scare against the Czech-American duo of Barbora Krejcikova and Rajeev Ram 5-7, 7-6 (7-2), 10-7.

Earlier, Sania Mirza and her Croatian partner Ivan Dodig kicked off their Australian Open campaign with a comfortable 7-5, 6-4 triumph over German-Croatian team of Laura Siegemund and Mate Pavic in the opening-round clash that lasted one hour and 25 minutes.

Mirza and Dodig will now lock horns with the Chinese-Austria team of Saisai Zheng and Alexander Peya.
