Bangladesh rope in Thilan Samaraweera as batting guru for England series

Johannesburg [South Africa], Sep.2 : Former Sri Lankan cricketer Thilan Samaraweera has been appointed as Bangladesh's batting consultant for next month's home series against England.

The development comes a day after West Indies legend Courtney Walsh was named as Bangladesh's specialist bowling coach on a three-year term.

While confirming the services of Samaraweera as their batting consultant for England series, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan also informed that the board was in the process of appointing more coaching staff keeping in mind a flurry of upcoming international tours, Sport24 reported.

Meanwhile, Hassan also said that fielding coach Richard Halsall would now work as the assistant coach after the termination of Sri Lanka's Ruwan Kalpage contract following his failure to turn up for a training camp.

Earlier, the tour was called into question in the wake of recent terror attack in Dhaka, which killed 20 hostages, including nine Italian in July.

However, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and its longstanding security expert Reg Dickason gave green signal to the country to proceed with the tour following their two-week visit to India and Bangladesh last month.

The two sides will play three-match ODI series followed by two-Test series, starting at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on October 7.
