Beijing reports 7 locally transmitted Covid-19 cases

Beijing, Dec 29 : Beijing reported seven new locally transmitted coronavirus cases, health authorities in the Chinese capital city said on Tuesday.

The seven patients, who live in the Shunyi district, are all close contacts of earlier reported cases, Xinhua news agency quoted the Beijing municipal health commission as saying in a statement.

The city also reported one imported asymptomatic Covid-19 case, a 28-year-old Indonesian man who arrived in Beijing on December 10 and tested positive for a coronavirus-related antibody (IgM) on December 26.



He was sent to the designated Ditan Hospital on December 27 and was diagnosed as an asymptomatic case the following day.

Local authorities are conducting epidemiologic investigations against the new cases and have taken control and prevention measures.

No new locally transmitted asymptomatic or suspected Covid-19 cases were reported in Beijing, according to the health commission.

The city also did not register any imported confirmed or suspected cases.

Overall, the Chinese mainland reported 27 newly coronavirus cases -- 15 locally transmitted cases and 12 arriving from outside the mainland, on Tuesday, according to the National Health Commission.

Of the 15, eight were in Liaoning and seven in Beijing.

With the new cases, China's overall infection tally has increased to 87,003, while the death toll stood at 4,634.
