Ben Whishaw in talks to star in ‘Mary Poppins’ sequel

London, Aug. 16 : If things fall in place, the 'Skyfall' star Ben Whishaw will join Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda in Disney's sequel to Mary Poppins.

The 35-year-old actor would play a grown-up Michael in the new film, reports the Daily Mail. To be directed by 'Into the Woods' helmer Rob Marshall, the movie will be set 20 years after events in the 1964 classic.

The movie, called 'Mary Poppins Returns,' will star Blunt as the practically perfect nanny and 'Hamilton' star Miranda as her lamplighter friend Jack, a new character.

The sequel, set in the Depression-era of London, revolves around Whishaw's character Michael, his three daughters and his sister Jane.

Reportedly, actress Meryl Streep is also in talks to appear in the sequel to the beloved 1964 Disney classic to play Mary Poppins' cousin Topsy, a new role.

The new movie is set to film in London next year, with a planned release date on Christmas, 2018..
