Kolkata, April 18 : The coronavirus death count in West Bengal increased to 12 on Saturday with the audit committee confirming two more loss of lives in the state, a top official said.
With 23 new cases being reported since Friday, the number of coronavirus active cases reached 178, said Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha.
"On Thursday, the number of active cases was 162.
After that, 23 new cases have been reported, while 7 patients recovered and got discharged from hospitals.
So, the total number of active cases is now 178," he said.
The audit committee has been formed to decide on whether a Covid-19 patient died due to the disease.
According to the central government, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases since the outbreak of the disease in the state is 287, of whom 55 have recovered fully and got discharged from hospital.
