Bengal’s active Covid-19 cases rise to 245

Kolkata, April 20 : The total number of active coronavirus cases in West Bengal rose to 245 with a record number of 54 cases reported on Monday, a top official said.

The death count, however, remained at 12, Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha said.

"On Sunday, the number of active cases was 198.

After that, 54 new cases have been reported, while seven patients have fully recovered and got discharged from hospital.

So, the total number of active cases is now 245," Sinha told media persons at state secretariat Nabanna.

The figure of 54 is the highest number of fresh Covid-19 cases reported in the state on a single day.

According to Sinha, 415 tests were conducted in the state over the past 24 hours, with 54 testing positive.

The cumulative figure of tests in the state has risen to 5,469.

A total of 73 people have recovered fully so far.

According to the Central government, the cumulative number of Covid 19 cases since the outbreak of the disease in the state is 339.

Sinha appealed to the people to abide by the lockdown, and stay at home.

"Lockdown cannot be imposed through force.

There are ten crore people in our state. People have to cooperate to make the lockdown a success," he said.
