BRIT Awards 2017: David Bowie receives two nominations post-death

WashingtonD.C.[USA], Jan.15 : The nominees for the 2017 BRIT Awards, which honours British and international musicians, were announced on Saturday, with David Bowie up for two posthumous awards.

The influential rock icon - who died at the age of 69 in January 2016 - received nominations in the British Male Solo Artists and British Album of the Year awards.

Bowie qualified for a nomination as his 'Blackstar' album, which was released just two days before his death, hit the Top 40 during the required dates for the award category.

The singer will go up against Craig David, Michael Kiwanuka and Skepta for the solo artist prize. Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen has also been nominated posthumously for this year's BRIT Awards in the International male solo artist section alongside Bon Iver, Bruno Mars, Drake and The Weeknd.

The awards will be hosted by Canadian crooner Michael Buble at the O2 Arena in London on February 22.
