Celebrations break out in Shahabuddin’s village post his release

Pratappur (Bihar) [India], Sept. 10 : Celebrations broke out in former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Member of Parliament Mohammad Shahabuddin's village of Pratappur in Siwan District after he was released from the Bhagalpur Central Jail after 11 years.

Locals were seen dancing with dhols and distributing sweets among each other. There was no measure to assess the expressions of happiness to Shahabuddin's family. Talking to ANI, Heena Shahab, Shahabuddin's wife said, "We all are very happy. We will celebrate." His father said that not only the family, but the neighbours are also really happy and they cannot express their happiness in words.

The former MP had been in jail since November 2005 after he was picked up from his residence in New Delhi by a joint team of Siwan Police and Delhi Police for the 2004 murder of Rajiv Ranjan.

Rajiv was a prime witness in the case involving the brutal murder of his two brothers- Girish Raj and Satish Raj- at Shahabuddin's native village in Siwan district on August 16, 2004.

Rajiv was shot dead in Siwan on June 16, 2014 when Shahabuddin was in jail. Shahabuddin's son Osama was accused of killing Rajiv, while the jailed former MP was later made accused in the case as conspirator.

The court has granted bail to Shahabuddin in Rajiv murder case on Wednesday. The former lawmaker is already on bail in the case related to murder of brothers, Girish Raj and Satish Raj.
