Coldplay pays tribute to Gene Wilder

Washington D.C. [USA], Sept. 5 : Soon after the news of Gene Wilder's demise broke, singer Coldplay honoured the legendary actor in a special way at his concert in Denver.

During the performance of the song 'The Scientist', Chris Martin and the band player inserted a line from 'Pure Imagination,' the popular track rendered by Wilder in the classic film 'Willy Wonka' and the 'Chocolate Factory', reports People Magazine.

After the gig, the band tweeted a clip of its member Martin singing a dreamy rendition of the song's chorus as the crowd cheered him on top of its voice.

Wilder's death at the age of 83 from complications with Alzheimer's disease came as an unpleasant surprise to many, as the loved comedy star kept away from the limelight in an effort to hide his health issues.

"The decision to wait until this time to disclose his condition wasn't vanity, but more so that the countless young children that would smile or call out to him 'there's Willy Wonka,' would not have to be then exposed to an adult referencing illness or trouble and causing delight to travel to worry, disappointment or confusion, He simply couldn't bear the idea of one less smile in the world," his nephew wrote in a statement announcing the actor's demise.
