Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Jan. 25 : Unperturbed by the recent Allahabad High Court's order which stayed the Uttar Pradesh Government's decision to include 17 sub-castes in the Scheduled Castes (SC) category, the Samajwadi Party on Wednesday said it will present its case in the court again and expressed hope that a final verdict will be delivered in favour of the community.
"We won't consider it as a setback. Rather, they have put a stay on it. Whatever the explanations is being sought by the court, will be provided by the government. The Samajwadi Party is committed to bring these OBC sub-castes into the SC category. We have also written a letter to the Centre on the same. We will again present our case in the court. Hope the final verdict will be delivered in the community's favour," Samajwadi Party leader Juhi Singh told ANI.
In a blow to the ruling Samajwadi Party Government ahead of the assembly polls, the Allahabad High Court yesterday stayed the government's order.
On December 22 last year, the Samajwadi Party Government had issued an order naming 17-sub-castes, earlier classified in the Other Backward Classes category, into the Scheduled Castes list.
The Allahabad High Court earlier on January 12 directed the Uttar Pradesh Government to file its reply on a petition challenging the decision.
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed by filed by a Gorakhpur-based organisation Dr Ambedkar Granthalaya Evam Jan Kalyan Samiti, challenging the Akhilesh Yadav government's decision to include the 17 OBC groups in SC category.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice D.B. Bhosle and Justice Yashwant Verma also asked the state government to file its counter affidavit within two weeks.
