Damian Green appointed First Secretary of State as May reshuffles Cabinet

London [UK], June 11 : British Prime Minister Theresa May in a Cabinet reshuffle post the snap general election appointed long-time friend Damian Green as First Secretary of State and Minister for the Cabinet Office.

The reshuffle comes in the backdrop of May's closest advisers Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill resigning following the Conservatives' loss in elections held on Thursday.

Green earlier served as work and pensions' secretary but being first secretary of state is the "deputy prime minister in all but name" title, reports the Guardian.

David Gauke has now been appointed as work and pensions secretary while Liz Truss has been appointed chief secretary of Treasury.

Truss received a demotion as earlier she was in charge of her own department as justice secretary and a full member of the cabinet.

Greg Clark stays as business secretary, Liam Fox remains international trade secretary, Justine Greening remains as education secretary and Sajid Javid remains as communities secretary David Lidington has been made justice secretary and Lord Chancellor.
