Demanding Guv’s arrest, youth tries to immolate self outside Raj Bhavan in Bhopal

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], Sept. 7 : A youth, Manoj Tripathi, who identified himself as a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), allegedly tried to immolate self in front of the main gate of Raj Bhavan when the cavalcade of Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav was coming out of the premises.

The youth was reportedly demanding arrest of the Governor, and has purportedly made several complaints with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against him.

The incident took place when the Governor was being given send-off. Speaking to reporters at the Jahangirabad Police Station here, Superintendent of Police (SP) Anshuman Singh said, "Manoj Tripathi, a resident of Kolar road, who identifies himself as a member of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was standing behind mediapersons outside the Raj Bhavan.

"Before the departure of the Governor, he came in the front and tried to set his shirt on fire (immolate self), but policemen present on the scene ripped off his shirt, arrested him and took him for a medical examination.

"The team that took him for a medical check-up said he had received minor burn injuries, and there was nothing serious.

After they return, we will record Tripathi's statement and will take the further action." When asked Tripathi threw some chit, demanding the arrest of the Governor, the SP said, "It is not in my knowledge, but some followers of the Jan Lok Dal were with him.

The policemen tried to stop them, but they came in the front. We will take statutory action against them.".
