Election Commission ready to hold any type of election: Nepal Chief Commissioner

Kathmandu [Nepal], Dec. 21 : The Election Commission of Nepal has given the green signal for holding any of elections, with the political parties of Nepal concentrating on holding the local level election.

With the speculation of not being able to hold the election, Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav claimed about the ability to hold the election while speaking to ANI.

The Commission also have sent the laws to be amended to hold the local elections, Yadav said. "We have made some modifications according to the constitution and sent to parliament through the Home Ministry.

So if the election of local bodies is held according to the existing structure, then existing laws- procedural law must be amended which Election Commission has drafted for modification and sent to the government.

Other laws like Election law and voter resistant law, political party laws these are the laws which need not to be amended and can be used for the existing structure election," Yadav said.

Election commission already have started it's preparation for the election of reviewing and updating the voters list and amending the laws for holding the election.

But the commission says the structure of election will take the decision over the time needed for preparedness.

"It depends onto the election. We have house of representative election, we have province assembly election and local election. So all elections have certain time to prepare but for the local level election, which is the starting point of the implementation of the constitution it needs, as we have already practiced in the last elections that is, a hundred and 20 days and for the local elections.

But the Commissioner complained of the lack of preparedness of government in holding the elections. "We have two types of preparation. Generally, pre-election period and then preparation period that is one is internal preparation of the election commission itself other preparation from the external that is from the government side from parliament or other stake holders.

So, from our sides' election commission is preparing some of the important tasks for the coming up elections like Voter Registration we are conducting and some we are estimating the logistic requirements needed for the elections and trainings and we are training manpower's, we are doing inside and the printing capacity, ballot paper size, everything we are doing from our sides," Yadav said.

Adding that the EC has no control whatsoever on the steps taken by the government, he added that they have sent the laws draft so that the government sends all the laws in time to the election commission, following which they will feel easier to go ahead according to laws and act.

The State Restructuring Commission is scheduled to submit its report to the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday demarking the state and the levels for holding the election.
