Gaikwad-AI staffer issue: Air India writes to Delhi Police over inaction

New Delhi [India], Apr 20 : Air India (AI) has written a letter to the Delhi Police asking why there was a delay in taking any action against Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad in its staffer assault case, AI sources say.

An FIR was registered in the matter, following the incident on March 23. Sources said Air India has written to the Delhi police on why there is delay in taking action against the MP.

It's reported that the the airline said that the morale of the employees was being impacted as no action was initiated against the MP despite nearly a month after the incident.

There was no official comment from Air India or the Delhi Police. Gaikwad is accused to have assaulted an Air India staffer inside an aircraft at the Delhi airport on March 23.

The national carrier as well as other domestic airlines then barred him from taking their flights. Earlier this month, the ban was revoked after the MP wrote a letter to Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju expressing regret over the incident.

In the aftermath of the incident, refusing to apologise to the Air India official whom he allegedly thrashed, Gaikwad said he would only tender an apology from the Parliament for disrespecting its dignity.

Asserting that it was a small conflict, Gaikwad said the staff of the airline was mad and around eight such cases of indulging into brawl have been registered against him.
