New Delhi [India], Sept. 26 : The government today launched a media campaign for Swachh Bharat Mission. The campaign features actor Amitabh Bachchan and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. Addressing media at launch of the campaign, Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation Narendra Tomar said that government has set a target of toilets in every household by 2019.
He said toilets have been built in every household in 85,000 villages of the country and that 23 districts are now totally free of open defecation.
He expressed happiness on the increasing citizen participation in Swachh Bharat Mission. Swachh Bharat Week got underway yesterday, on the occasion of the birth centenary of Pt Deendayal Upadhay.
Swachh Bharat Week is being organised to celebrate the second anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission. The Central Government is organising a week-long cleanliness drive across the country. The Swachh Bharat Mission was launched on October 2, in 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As part of the celebrations, a sanitation conference INDOSAN will be held on the 30th of this month. It will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister. INDOSAN will renew the commitment to make India clean by 2019. Besides, Mr Modi will felicitate best performers in 11 different categories for their campaign towards ensuring cleanliness.
