Gulbarga (Karnataka),[India] Oct.10 : A heavy downpour in southern India has brought life to a standstill in most parts, including Gulbarga in Karnataka.
Due to the heavy rainfall, agricultural land and crops have been damaged considerably. For the last two years, farmers were facing a major drought due to deficit rainfall in the Gulbarga region, and now they facing crop damage due to heavy rains this year.
Expecting a good rainfall this year, the farmers had taken loans, but the monsoon showers have virtually destroyed their crops and hopes of earning from a good harvest.
"Now, nobody is looking to help us, neither the gods, nor the government. Almost every farmer in this region is under stress. The government should help the farmer and bail him out of this grim situation, otherwise, the farmer will be left nowhere," he said.
