Himachal traders resent restrictions on selling eatables

Shimla, July 6 : The Federation of Retailer Association of India (FRAI) on Friday expressed concerns over trade and product restrictions for outlets selling multiple products of daily use.

It said it would lead to harassment of the retailers and a sharp increase in the cost of doing business.

The FRAI appealed to Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur to protect the interests of over 1.5 lakh micro retailers in the state, who sell multiple products.

"Foreign-funded NGOs are pressurising the government with misleading information campaigns to frame anti-small retailer policies," said Ashok Kumar, a member of the FRAI.

He added retailers who also sell tobacco are already facing immense financial pressure because of extreme regulation of the tobacco industry.
