Hollywood reacts with disgust to ‘Last Tango In Paris’ director’s rape scene confession

Washington D.C. [USA], Dec. 4 : Actors and other public figures are responding with outrage to 'Last Tango In Paris' director Bernardo Bertolucci after a three year old video, that recently came to light, confirmed a nonconsensual brutal rape scene in the 1972 movie.

The scene in question featured Marlon Brando's character raping co-star Maria Schneider's character using a stick of butter as lubricant.

This was a shock to audiences back then and as Schneider, who died following a battle with cancer in 2011, said herself years later, a shock to her as well, reports deadline.com.

Several actors and public figures shared their dismay and disgust about the admission on social media.

Chris Evans tweeted, "Wow. I will never look at this film, Bertolucci or Brando the same way again. This is beyond disgusting. I feel rage." 'Trolls' actress Anna Kendrick replied to the 'Captain America' star's tweet writing, "@colliderfrosty @ChrisEvans Ms Schneider stated this several years ago.

I used to get eye-rolls when I brought it up to people (aka dudes)." "To all the people that love this film- you're watching a 19yr old get raped by a 48yr old man.

The director planned her attack. I feel sick," wrote Jessica Chastain. Evan Rachel Wood, who recently opened up about her own experience with sexual assault, seconded Chastain's statement.

"This is heartbreaking and outrageous. The 2 of them are very sick individuals to think that was ok," Wood tweeted. Michael Cudlitz tweeted, "Special place in hell for these two scumbags and everyone on the crew that watched and did nothing.

FUCK YOU." 68-year-old American politician Howard Dean wrote, "Not surprised at Brando or Bertolucci" in reply to another tweet that says, "I feel sick to my stomach just reading this." In a 2007 interview with The Daily Mail, Schneider was blunt, revealing at the time that Brando and Bertolucci came up with the idea without her, and heavily pressured her to do it when she showed up for work.

Before her death in 2011, the 'The Passenger' actress had harsher words for the director, saying, "He was fat and sweaty and very manipulative, both of Marlon and myself, and would do certain things to get a reaction from me." Admitting that she was too young to know better, she also revealed that even Marlon "felt manipulated." ".so you can imagine how I felt.

People thought I was like the girl in the movie, but that wasn't me," she shared..
