Madras HC closes Sasikala Pushpa’s plea challenging ‘chinamma’s elevation in AIADMK

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], Jan.2 : The Madras High Court on Monday closed a petition filed by expelled All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) MP Sasikala Pushpa, seeking to quash Sasikala Natrajan's elevation as the party's general secretary.

Justice Kalyanasundaram, while hearing the case, allowed AIADMK's presiding chairman Madhusudhanan's plea and closed the petition filed by Pushpa and her husband Lingeswara Thilagan.

The petition filed by the party's representative contended that Pushpa's petition must be rejected as she is not a member of the AIADMK.

Whereas, Pushpa in her suit, had submitted that the primary eligibility to contest the election for the post of general secretary must have been a primary member of the party continuously for five years as per the AIADMK bye-laws and Sasikala did not fulfill this norm.

On December 31, Sasikala, close aide of late chief minister J. Jayalalithaa, took over the general secretary post, which the latter had held the post till she passed away.
