NCP’s Sharad Pawar underlines farmers’ problem post denomination

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Dec. 17 : National Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar on Saturday highlighted the problems of farmers post demonetisation.

"We went and met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and other officials to request them to allow deposit of old notes in district banks but got no answer.

Later we moved the Supreme Court and I am happy that the apex court has ordered district banks to accept old notes.

Also new currency must be made available to district banks so that they can lend loans to farmers," he told media here.

"Now that the Kharif season is completed and soon the Rabi season would commence, banks would need enough currency to dispense loans.

If the banks don't have enough money to dispense what will the farmers do, where will they go?" he added.

Pawar further said that demonetisation is an attempt to disrupt the entire channel of banking and the farmers would be the worst affected.
