Pablo Larrain to helm Tom Hardy’s ‘The True American’

London [U.K.], Apr. 7 : 'The True American' finally has a director! The Oscar-nominated director Pablo Larrain has been tapped to direct the Tom Hardy-starrer for Annapurna Pictures, reports The Independent.

The movie is an adaptation of Anand Giridharadas' 2014 non-fiction book 'The True American: Murder' and 'Mercy in Texas,' which follows the story of Rais Bhuiyan, the Muslim immigrant and Bangladesh Air Force veteran who narrowly survived an attack in Texas on himself and two others by Mark Anthony Stroman, in the days following 9/11.

Despite the horrors Bhuiyan lived through, he came to forgive Stroman and strived to prevent his execution.

Megan Ellison, Kathryn Bigelow (who at one point was attached to direct), Matthew Budman and Juan de Dios Larrain are producing.

On a related note, Tom Hardy will be next seen in Christopher Nolan's 'Dunkirk,' alongside Mark Rylance, Cillian Murphy and Harry Styles.
