Pak poll body rejects Imran’s allegations as ‘highly irresponsible’

Islamabad [Pakistan], Jan. 1 : The Election Commission of Pakistan has taken strong exception to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan's comments that the Nawaz Sharif government planted its men in the commission to rig the 2018 general election.

Terming Imran's remarks as 'highly irresponsible', the election commission said in a statement that it was and continues to be an institution of repute that is entirely focused in serving the nation.

The News quoted the statement as saying, "The Election Commission strives to conduct free, fair and transparent elections and expects the citizens of Pakistan to assist it in this national responsibility." It added that such statements by Imran or any other leader undermines the integrity of the commission.

"Needless to say, the Election Commission will continue to perform its functions undeterred by a deliberate vilification campaign," it said.
