Pak Senate questions govt. on ex-army chief Sharif’s Saudi-led alliance appointment

Islamabad [Pakistan], Jan. 10 : Pakistan Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani has asked the Nawaz Sharif whether former army chief General (Retired) Raheel Sharif took its approval before accepting appointment of commander of the 39-nation Saudi-led military alliance.

Rabbani asked Defence Minister Khawaja Asif whether a no objection certificate had been obtained by General (Retired) Sharif.

The government is likely to respond to Rabbani's question on Wednesday. "I heard your statement on TV and you were not clear yourself," the Dawn quoted Rabbani, telling to the defence minister.

He said Prime Minister Sharif's aide, Dr Musaddiq Malik, has made the matter even more ambiguous by issuing contradictory statements.

Rabbani has asked the Foreign office to clarify how this appointment could impact the nation's foreign policy in short and long term.
