President Mukherjee condoles loss of lives in Maharashtra bridge collapse

New Delhi, Aug. 4 : President Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the loss of lives in the bridge collapse on the Mumbai-Goa Highway in Konkan region of Maharashtra.

In a message to Maharashtra Governor Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao, President Mukherjee said on Thursday, "I am sad to learn about the accident in which some people were washed away when a bridge on the Mumbai-Goa Highway in Konkan region of Maharashtra collapsed due to heavy rains today.

I understand that few bodies have been recovered and further search and rescue operations are currently underway." The President further said, "I am sure the State Government and other agencies are providing all possible assistance to the bereaved families of the deceased.

Kindly ask concerned authorities to make speedy efforts to rescue remaining survivors. Necessary action may please be also taken to investigate the cause of the accident and ensure that such mistakes do not happen in future." He urged to convey his heartfelt condolences to the family members of the deceased.

"I pray to the Almighty to give them the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss," he said.
