‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ scores 2016’s biggest preview on opening night in US

London [UK], Dec. 17 : Felicity Jones starrer 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' had a grand opening with 29 million dollars on its first night of release in the US.

The spin-off, which is set before the events of 'Star Wars: A New Hope', has beaten 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' and 'Captain America: Civil War' to score the year's biggest preview number, reports the Guardian.

However, falls behind the record-breaking 57 million dollars achieved by 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' that opened last year.

'Rogue One' is expected to score the second biggest December opening of all time with tracking around 135-150 million dollars, racing against the 247.9 million opening achieved by 'The Force Awakens' last year.

Reviews for the film have been largely positive, with the leading daily calling it an "exhilarating, good-natured and enjoyable adventure".

The Rotten Tomatoes score is 85% compared with 92% for the previous movie in the 'Star Wars' franchise.

Also starring Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker and many more stars, the Gareth Edwards directed movie is in theatres.
