Rooney CLEARED in ‘wedding-gate’ furore following FA investigation

London [UK], Nov. 26 : England captain Wayne Rooney has been cleared following a Football Association (FA) inquiry into the 'Wedding-gate' furore.

Following an investigation, the FA bosses have accepted Rooney's explanation and insistence that he did not gate-crash a wedding reception.

This now means that the Manchester United skipper will not face any disciplinary action or be stripped of the captaincy over the celebratory drink at the team's Grove Hotel 24 hours after England's victory over Scotland two weeks ago, the Mirror reported.

Following the investigation, the FA have established that Rooney was photographed by wedding guests out in public areas of the hotel and not after entering the official wedding reception.

Various pictures had appeared on a national daily after Rooney joined a wedding party following England's World Cup qualifying victory against Scotland.

The England captain has been drawing flak and has been receiving flurry of criticism and negative comments after it was reported that he was out socialising until the early hours of last Sunday morning and the fallout rumbled along all last week.

After scoring in Manchester United's 4-0 defeat of Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday, Rooney said, "I actually didn't even step foot into the wedding and I think it's a shame that I'm having to talk about it now after such a great victory." The report of the Football Association means that Rooney would be clear to continue in the English set-up, although his automatic starting place is under threat.
