Sonu Nigam’s ‘Azaan’ rant takes Twitter by storm

New Delhi [India], Apr 17 : Sonu Nigam, today, lost several fans after he went on a religious rant, early in the morning.

On being woken up to the sound of azaan, the singer took to Twitter to slam the practice. Terming it as 'forced religiousness,' he tweeted, "God bless everyone. I'm not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India" "And by the way Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison?" he further tweeted. Tagging religionism to 'Gundagardi', he again tweeted , "I don't believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don't follow the religion .

Why then..? Honest? True?" adding, "Gundagardi hai bus..." Sonu's views did not go down well with the Twitter users and as a result, in no times, the microblogging site was taken by storm with users slamming the singer for his tweets.

"@sonunigam I am a fan of urs but this was definitely a bullshit statement. U gotta respect other religions beliefs. It's a democratic country," wrote one. Another user wrote, "Dear @sonunigam ji, It's just the noise of prayers which is waking you up, there are many countries where bullets (and) bombs will do the same." Connecting Sonu's tweet to Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel's 'poor India' statement, one user tweeted, "Snapchat CEO :- Thank you "Sonu Nigam" !!".
