St. Patrick’s Day: Irish PM gifts traditional ‘shamrock bowl’ to President Trump

New York[U.S.], Mar. 17 : As part of the White House St. Patrick's Day celebrations, President Donald Trump met today with Ireland's Prime Minister Enda Kenny to discuss United States-Ireland economic and cultural ties.

The Taoiseach also presented a bowl of Irish shamrocks to Trump as part of annual St Patrick's Day celebrations.

Trump and the Taoiseach agreed on the importance of expanding the already powerful United States-Ireland trade relationship and of identifying new opportunities to collaborate on global issues, the White House said in a statement.

The leaders also discussed the consequences facing, and the opportunities available to Ireland in the wake of the United Kingdom's decision to the leave the European Union.

Finally, they agreed on the importance of Northern Ireland's political parties finding a way forward on a shared regional government in order to sustain the peace process launched by the Good Friday Agreement.

Kenny said he had raised both the issue of legal immigration paths for Irish people, including the revival of a stalled proposal of a new E3 visa scheme, as well as the situation of undocumented Irish citizens living in the United States.
