Swaraj India sets up legal team to assist CAA detainees

New Delhi, Dec 19 : While the Delhi Police are detaining protesters in different parts of the capital, the Swaraj India party has set up a team of 13 lawyers to assist the detainees.



Swaraj India has put together a legal team to be present on the spot.

The team will be working under the supervision of noted lawyer Prashant Bhushan. Anyone facing detention or legal action during the protests has been asked to contact these lawyers.

IANS called a few of the lawyers who are part of the team. Manav Kumar said that they are getting 5 calls per minute from across the country and are trying to help them and connect to the nearby lawyers.



He said that at least 200 people have been detained at Surajmal Park and about 60 people at Mandir Marg.



Another lawyer Akshita Minocha who is based out of Dwarka said she has received calls from more than 60 people to seek legal help.



While Nilesh Jain who is the main coordinator for the lawyers said that more than 1,000 people have been detained till 2 p.m., in which 350 people are in Nangloi.

The police have kept the detainees at various locations in Delhi, including Tilak Marg and Darya Ganj police stations.



However, the lawyers said no paperwork or formalities have been completed by the police and the detainees have just been kept at various places.

Even the police is not saying why they have detained them and what paperwork they have done, the lawyers claimed.

Raja, Brinda Karat and Congress' Sandeep Dikshit have been detained from Mandi House and Swaraj India's Yogendra Yadav from Red Fort.
