Tripura BJP chief escapes unhurt after his car attacked

Agartala [India], Oct. 15 : Tripura BJP state president Biplab Deb's escaped unhurt after his rented house and parked vehicle were attacked last night allegedly by a group of suspected ruling CPIM cadres.

Following the attack, Deb's personal guard opened fire to disperse the attackers. "At around 11.30 PM, few people whom I did not began attacking my vehicle and hearing the sound my driver ran there and claimed compensation from them but they starting physically assaulting him.

In the meantime within five minutes time these people gathered another 30 to 35 people who also joined them and were threatening to kill me and using foul language against me and the party," he said.

At that time Deb did not have any escort other than a personal guard who asked him not to move out and locked him inside the vehicle.

The agitated crowd then turned on the guard and began attacking him as well and then began pelting stones as the windows of the car.

Deb's guard then opened blank fire on the mob as they tried to enter his building, following which they ran helter-skelter.

This is the second attack on the state BJP chief as on 11 October, Deb's vehicle in which he was along with his entire family and with police escort was also allegedly attacked by a group of CIPM cadres.

However, Deb has asserted that these are organized attacks of by the Communists. Meanwhile, based on a complaint, the police has arrested two accused and are in search of others..
