Ghaziabad, Dec 26 : The city's ambitious elevated road project -- connecting UP Gate at Delhi border and Raj Nagar Extension -- will be completed by December 31 this year and become operational by January 15, 2018, said a senior official on Tuesday.
"We are in the process of inviting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath," Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) Vice Chairperson and District Magistrate Ritu Maheshwari told IANS.
Although initially there was no plan to impose toll for using the road, the financial crunch may force the Authority to consider this option.
A final decision on the issue is expected before the year closes on December 31.
"Provision for toll was not planned at the time of launch of this project, and currently we are also not actively considering levying toll, but since the GDA is facing acute financial crunch and has Rs.
700-crore loan from the NCR Planning Board, we may consider imposing toll," said the Vice Chairperson.
In case the imposition of toll is decided upon, the GDA Board would just have to pass a proposal to this effect and, accordingly, a provision for construction of a toll plaza would be added to the project, according to Maheshwari.
