WCD Ministry issues advisory against schemes floated in name of BBBP scheme

New Delhi [India], Mar. 21 : The Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) has issued an advisory for Delhi residents that no personal details should be shared in the name of forms providing cash incentives under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.

According to the advisory, it has been clarified that the scheme had no provision of individual cash transfer by the Government of India.

The scheme focuses on challenging mindsets and deep rooted patriarchy in the societal system. The focus is on issues of women empowerment over a life cycle continuum. It is not a DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) scheme. The release further mentions that the Ministry has already taken up the matter with the State Government authorities, where this illegal activity took place namely Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Bihar.

The matter is now being reported from different parts of Delhi particularly in Tikri, Bhatti Khurd, Dakshinpuri Extension, and Sangam Vihar.

The case has been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The scheme was first introduced in October 2014 to address the issue of skewed child sex ratio in India.

It was a joint initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
