We have supported demonetisation from day one, won’t be part of Bharat Bandh: JD(U)

New Delhi [India], Nov. 27 : The Janata Dal (United) on Sunday said that it would not be a part of 'Akosh Diwas', the protest initiated against the Center's demonetisation drive.

"We have supported the government's policy of demonetisation from day one. Nitish Kumar has said that any move to curb black money and corruption will be supported," JD (U) General Secretary Pavan Varma told ANI.

However, he added that the implementation of demonetisation could have been done in a better way. "We would like demonetisation and such steps to go beyond to curb gold, bullion, benami properties and others," he said.

"All political parties are free to pursue their own political agenda and Nitish Kumar has spoken both to Lalu Prasad Yadav and the president of the Congress in Bihar about it," he added.

The opposition parties will launch a country wide protest 'Aakrosh Diwas' on November 28 over the demonetisation move.

This come as the deadlock continues in Parliament with the government and the opposition locked in dispute on how to discuss or debate the demonetisation decision.

The ruling dispensation has also rejected the opposition's demand for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be present in the Parliament during the discussion.
