11 militants killed in multiple anti-terror raids in Bangladesh

Dhaka [Bangladesh], Oct. 8 : Eleven militants were killed on Saturday in three separate anti-militant raids in Gazipur and Tangail area of Bangladesh.

Among them, nine were killed in Harinal and Patartek area in Gazipur town while two others in Tangail, reports the Daily Star.

In Patartek, seven militants were killed when a joint team of police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a raid at a two-storey-house.

The police said that they were tipped-off that the militants were staying there so they cordoned off the house around 10:00 a.m.

asked them to surrender. But, the latter traded gunfire ignoring the call, said Monirul Islam,Chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

The joint team then conducted the raid in the triggering a gunfight that left seven militants dead on the spot.

In Harinal, two alleged militants were also killed in a "shootout" with Rapid Action Battalion. According to RAB officials, an AK-47 rifle, dozens of bullets, bomb-making explosive substances, four laptops, three machetes and a laminating machine were recoverd from the house that made them suspect that more people might have been living in the unit.
