14th Mumbai Marathon flagged-off

Mumbai [India], Jan 15 : The 14th edition of the prestigious Mumbai Marathon 2017 was flagged-off from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai on Sunday morning.

The full marathon for amateurs was flagged off at 5.40 a.m. and was followed by the full marathon for the elite and Indian athletes at 7.20 a.m. Both of these races will end at the CST. The half marathon race was flagged off at 5.40 a.m. from Worli Dairy. It will go on to the Sea Link, and trace the same route back as the marathon to finish opposite CST. Organisers of the marathon said that more than 40000 runners from different corners of the world are taking part in the event.

This year with 53 elite international and Indian runners have the lined up for the competition. The 14th edition of Mumbai Marathon includes India's biggest names in track and field and distance running athletes.

Olympian Kheta Ram, who clocked his personal best at the Rio Olympics last year, is eyeing to better it.

Other athletes Elam Singh and Mohd Yunus are also running the full marathon. In the women's event, Maharashtra's Jyoti Gawade along with Jigmet Dolma and Tsetan Dockar are competing in the full marathon.

Kenya's Levy Matebo, Ethiopia's Seboka Dibaba and Rio Olympic 2016 Games fifth-place finisher Alphonce Simbu are competing for the full marathon.

Ethiopia's Dinknesh Mekash, a two-time winner in Mumbai is a favourite to win the women's race..
