New Delhi, Jan 9 : Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have said that they will step back as "senior royals" and work to become financially independent, creating tumult in the British royal family, which said they were "not consulted" and were "hurt" at the sudden announcement.
In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: "Discussions with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage.
We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work though."
The news has draw a flood of reaction from social media users.
One Twitter user wrote, "I really hope Megan and Harry are able to independently support themselves financially.
However will they cope?"
"How funny. Use public money to fund your wedding, do f**k all public work and then decide to 'step back' from it.
Hilarious...#Harrymeghan," added another.
A post read, "Not sure their marketability will last their 'NonRoyal' type status.
Have they not worked out that they're famous because they're Royals (and) receive non stop Free Press as a result? How long will their product remain of interest? They aren't celebrities they r Royals! #HarryMeghan."
A Tweeple remarked, "This morning I warned my son that if he throws one more tantrum before school, I will be resigning from the family cos that's totally a thing now #Harrymeghan #MeghanMarkle."
