BJP lambasts AAP for ‘dual character’ on liquor policy

New Delhi, Aug. 8 : The BJP on Monday cornered the AAP following reports that the Delhi Government approved 58 liquor shops during its tenure and alleged that this exposed the Arvind Kejriwal-led party's 'dual character' on liquor policy.

BJP leader Maheish Girri said Kejriwal will ruin the national capital by taking it on the path of addiction.

"It is a matter of utter shame for the Aam Aadmi Party as their party leaders visit the Somnath temple on one hand and contrary to this, the party wishes to earn money by making Delhiites alcoholic," Girri said.

As per the reply to an RTI query filed by a political organisation called Swaraj Abhiyan, Kejriwal-led government has approved licenses of 58 liquor shops within its17-month rule in Delhi.

Swaraj Abhiyan is governed by Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav, who were sacked from the party for alleged involvement in 'anti-party' activities in April last year.

The RTI revelation has come up at a time when the Kejriwal has been reaching out to the voters in Punjab by promising them to make the state alcohol and drug-free.

The reply to the RTI application also revealed that the Delhi Government has so far spent Rs. 7.76 lakh to spread awareness against drug addiction and alcoholism..
