Aston Villa sack manager Roberto Di Matteo just after 12 games

Birmingham [England], Oct.3 : Aston Villa have sacked manager Roberto Di Matteo following the side's disastrous start to the season that left the team occupying 19th position in the Football League Championship.

The Italian, who won the Championship League with Chelsea, has been axed by second-tier club Villa after just 12 games in charge.

"Aston Villa Football Club has today parted company with manager Roberto Di Matteo. The club decided to act following a run of disappointing results which has the left the team occupying 19th position in the Championship, the club was quoted as saying by the Guardian.

The club, however, thanked Di Matteo for all the hard work he had put in rebuilding the squad. The former Chelsea manager made nine signings this summer, including spending 12 million pounds on Ross McCormack and 15 million pounds on Jonathan Kodjia Steve Clarke will now take over as the caretaker manager until a new manager is appointed.Villa are now looking for their fifth full-time manager since February 2014.
